Defeating Portugal in penalty shoot-out, Spain pass to final. After playing for 120 minutes, finally Spain could pass to final Euro 2012 after defeating Portugal trough penalty area with score 4-2.
Playing Portugal vs Spain match in Donbass Arena, Donetsk, on 27 June 2012, both Spain and Portugal could not score a single goal in the first and second half time and also in extra time.
In the end, the match had to be finished with penalty shoot out. Both team first kicker failed to finish their job, but in general, two Portugal kickers failed to do his job whereas only Xabi Alonso who failed to do his job for Spain.
And Cesc Fabregas finally made his team passed to their second final in a row, after four years ago they became the champion. In final Euro 2012, La Furia Roja will play against the winner of Germany vs Italy match.
Portugal got first chance to score goal trough Miguel Veloso corner kick in 2’, but Iker Casillas could deflect the ball.
Spain got thei r first chance in 9’. Starting from Andres Iniesta, the ball was passed to Alvaro Negredo who passed the ball to Alvaro Arbeloa. Arbeloa shot the ball but his shot was still several inches from the goal post.
Cristiano Ronaldo almost scored goal in 31’. Receiving the ball in the penalty area, he shot the ball but it still struck several inches from the goal post.
The first half ended with tie score 0-0.
The first on target shot came in 67’ when Xavi Hernadez who dribbled the ball into penalty area, shot the ball but Rui Patricio still could catch the ball.
In 70’ Portugal got free kick, Ronaldo who took the free kick could not score goal after his free kick was still far from Casillas goal post.
In 89’ Portugal got golden chance trough Ronaldo. Starting from counter attack, Ronaldo got the ball in penalty area. He enough stood freely in the right side, but his shot was still far from the goal post.
Until the second half time ended, both of team could not score goal. The macth was continued with extra time 2×15 minutes.
Iniesta got goal-chance in 103’. Receiving pass from Alba right in front of goal post, Iniesta shot the ball but Patricio could deflect the ball.
Spain got chance to score goal trough Sergio Ramos free kick two minutes afterward. But his shot was still just several inches from the goal post.
Until the end of the extra time, both Spain and Portugal could score goal and played tie score 0-0 for 120 minutes therefore the match had to finished trough penalty shoot out.
Xabi Alonso, the first one who took the penalty for Spain, could do his job well. He failed after Patricio could deflect his shot. It was the same as Joao Moutinho whose shot could be deflected by Iker Casillas.
And in the end after the next three kicker from Spain and two kickers from Portugal could score goal, Portugal had to give up to play in final Euro 2012 after Bruno Alves, the fourth kicker of Portugal, could not score goal whereas Cesc Fabregas, the last kicker of Spain, could do his job well. In the end, Spain won 4-2 against Portugal in penalty shoot out.
