Torres finished as joint to scorer along with Mario Balotelli (Italy), Mario Mandzukic (Croatia), Mario Gomez (Germany), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), and Alan Dzagoev (Russia) with three goals.
The striker of Spain National Team entered the field as Fabregas substitute when Spain defeated Italy 4-0 in final match of Euro 2012 on 1 July 2012 in Olympic Stadium, Kiev. Scoring a single goal in the match and playing for 189 minutes in all Euro matches, Fernando Torres succeeded to win the golden boot.
If there are more than a player who scores same goal, so UEFA use several criteria to decide who is the proper one to get the Golden Boot. And the criteria are :
- Player who did the most assists
- Player who played in the least minutes
With note, only goal in normal or extra time which was considered. Goal in penalty shoot out is not considered.
