About Darmstadt

Darmstadt, or SV Darmstadt 98, is a professional football club based in Darmstadt, Germany. The club was founded in 1898 and has played its home matches at the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Böllenfalltor since 2013.

Darmstadt has spent most of its history playing in the lower leagues of German football, but in recent years, the club has enjoyed a period of success. In the 2014-15 season, Darmstadt earned promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, and in the following season, the club achieved a remarkable promotion to the Bundesliga after finishing in second place.

Despite being considered one of the weakest teams in the league, Darmstadt managed to avoid relegation in their first season back in the top-flight, finishing in 14th place. However, the club was unable to replicate this success in the following season and was relegated back to the 2. Bundesliga.

Darmstadt's most successful period came in the 1970s, when the club won the Hessenliga and earned promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. The club spent four seasons in the second tier before being relegated again in 1981. Darmstadt won the Hessenliga again in 1999 and has since bounced between the 2. Bundesliga and 3. Liga.
